What are Diuretics?

Diuretics, often known as water pills, assist your kidneys in excreting excess salt and water in your urine or pee. Diuretics work by removing excess fluid and lowering blood pressure. When you have too much fluid accumulating due to heart failure or other medical issues, diuretics can help.

Types of Diuretics-

There are three types of diuretics-

  • Loop (furosemide or bumetanide)
  • Thiazide (hydrochlorothiazide or chlorthalidone)
  • Potassium sparing (triamterene or amiloride)

Diuretics are used to prevent, treat, or improve the symptoms of:

  • Heart Failure
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Renal Failure
  • Diabetes insipidus
